Today I would like to warn you seriously under the title, ¡°Do Not Believe in Yourself.¡± Please greet each other, saying, ¡°The Holy Spirit helps you.¡±

When pilots are trained in an aviation school, the instructors keep emphasizing, ¡°In your plane¡¯s cockpit, don¡¯t believe in your senses; especially, when you fly in the midst of adverse weather or at high altitude or off course, don¡¯t trust yourself. Only believe the instrument panel.¡±

When we travel through the desert, we happen to meet a mirage. From the human perspective, there seems to be water there so they rush there believing that there is an oasis, but there is no water at all but only a sandy beach. Likewise, human senses or experience aren¡¯t perfect or reliable, we need an instrument panel.

Psalm 119:105 says, ¡°Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.¡±

Our instrument panel of life is the Bible. No matter what kind of situations we face, we must depend on the Word of God. It is the Bible that we have to rely on as the only map of life that guides us in the world. The Bible is our map. Just as pilots are trained to look at an instrument panel, not relying on their senses in their cockpit, we must not believe in ourselves. Many people don¡¯t believe in God but become their own master of life.

Psalm 53:1 says, ¡°The fool says in his heart, ¡®There is no God.¡¯ They are corrupt, and their ways are vile; there is no one who does good.¡±

The Judges in the Old Testament recorded the story after the Israelites entered the promised land of Canaan. After they had been enslaved in Egypt for 430 years God sent Moses to lead them out of there to reach the land flowing with milk and honey. However, the Israelites committed many sins even in the land of restoration. In the land of Canaan the Israelites disobeyed the Word of God and lived libertine lives on their own. The last phase of the Judges ended like this.

Judges 21:25 says, ¡°In those days Israel had no king; everyone did as he saw fit.¡±

They did not follow the Word of God, but did as they saw fit. As a result, the Israelites wandered in the pit of indescribable sins. Even nowadays countless people leave God and become their own master of life and do as they see fit. They think that they are the master of their own lives. However, Proverbs 16:25 says, ¡°There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.¡±

Anyone who does not follow the Word of God but becomes his own master of life chooses the path to death. And that path can never reach happiness. As humans are destined to serve God, as long as God presides over and takes good care of their lives, they can enjoy true happiness. If they disobey God, there will be no joy at all.

Then what should we do when we have to face the storm of life? Especially pilots should not believe their eyes or senses as they fly at high altitudes. When our neighbors or society are misled or doing wrong things, we must find the right path, which is the Bible. As they stick to the wrong path or speak the wrong things or we are passing through the rough storm of life, Proverbs 29:25 says, ¡°Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the LORD is kept safe.¡±

There shouldn¡¯t be always sunny days in human life. There are times when we face the storms of life and lose our way. Sometimes a healthy person gets sick or a prosperous person meets obstacles in his business or a sudden disaster overwhelms us with great grief. When these happen, if we disregard God and rely on ourselves only, we should fall into despair.

King David was recognized by God and praised by his people. However, he did not enjoy only sunny days. There were many crises in David¡¯s life, but he relied on God always and experienced His help. Therefore, in Psalm 23:4 he confessed as follows, ¡°Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.¡±

Psalm 119:50 says, ¡°My comfort in my suffering is this: Your promise preserves my life.¡±

In a rainstorm of life, if we rely on God, He will calm the storm and comfort us by His mighty power.

Psalm 43:5 says, ¡°Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.¡±

As pilots follow the instrument panel, we must believe and follow the Bible.

Proverbs 16:9 says, ¡°In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps.¡±

Psalm 115:11 says, ¡°You who fear him, trust in the LORD-- he is their help and shield.¡±

The Bible compares us with sheep.

Isaiah 53:6 says, ¡°We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.¡±

Sheep are considered to be the most near-sighted animals. As sheep lose the way with ease, they need a shepherd the most. Shepherds must lead them to feed on delicious grass and keep them from the attacks of lions. Our good Shepherd is Jesus.

John 10:11 says, "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.¡±

John 10:27 says, ¡°My sheep listen to My voice; I know them, and they follow Me.¡±

As we are Jesus¡¯ sheep, we must follow His Word. God always guides us personally.

Exodus 13:21-22 says, ¡°By day the LORD went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day or night. Neither the pillar of cloud by day nor the pillar of fire by night left its place in front of the people.¡±

The Israelites had to pass through the wilderness to enter the land of Canaan. There was no food or water in the wilderness but only unexpected sand storms and dangerous snakes and scorpions crowded. However, they were not all alone at all.

Deuteronomy 1:33 says, ¡°who went ahead of you on your journey, in fire by night and in a cloud by day, to search out places for you to camp and to show you the way you should go.¡±

When they passed through the risky wilderness, God led them, His own people, personally. Even nowadays when we pass through the wilderness of life, God personally leads us! God guides us through His Word and gives us good things as we follow His Word.

Proverbs 16:20 says, ¡°Whoever gives heed to instruction prospers, and blessed is he who trusts in the LORD.¡±

He says that we will be in this Kingdom of God.

James 4:14 says, ¡°Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.¡±

People are imperfect beings who do not know what will happen tomorrow. Therefore, when we walk in the path of life, we should not rely on ourselves but commit everything to God.

Proverbs 16:3 says, ¡°Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.¡±

When we commit everything to God, He will make it come to pass. Many people fail in their lives because they rely on their own wisdom, intelligence, strategy, talents and experience. When we read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, it is the Word of God. We should understand the wisdom of God by reading His Word and be strengthened not to fall into a false path but to stand on the right path.

Apostle Paul said in Philippians 3:14, ¡°I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.¡± He lived by having clear goals of life and by following the Word of God. Our life is the same as the airplane which flies toward its destination. If we want to arrive at our destination well, we need an instrument panel that we can rely on for our flight, which is the Word of God. Read the instrument panel every day. The Word of God is the instrument panel. We can get all the information we need in life from the Bible. If we move forward, relying on the Word of God even when the wind blows and storms come, God will guide our footsteps and give us peace in life.
